Kampong Cham

  • Kampong Cham,-Cambodia
Sleepy Kampong Cham is one of Cambodia's largest towns, located on the banks of the mighty Mekong River. Its name derives from the ethnic Cham, or Chinese Muslims, who inhabit many of the surrounding villages. The town retains much of its original charm, with wide boulevards, French colonial buildings, well maintained gardens, and a river front promenade. Nearby temples dating to the 6th century AD reveal Cambodia's oldest remnants of Angkorian architecture.
