Three Camel Lodge

three camel lodge
This luxury wilderness camp in Mongolia is located in the rugged Gobi Desert. Sitting in the shadows of the beautiful Gobi-Altai Mountains in Gurvansaikhan National Park, Three Camel Lodge blends perfectly with the stunning natural beauty of the surrounding desert.

Sheltered by a 54-million-year-old volcanic outcrop and laid out across the Gobi‘s floor are the forty-five felt gers (nomadic tents) and a striking main lodge. Like the homes of the nomadic herders that inspired them, the handmade gers are rustic, roomy, and comfortable, with wood-burning stoves, hand-painted wooden beds, and indigenous furniture. Each one can accommodate up to four guests and has twenty-four hour electricity from solar panels. The main lodge has been crafted by local artisans in the style of Mongolian Buddhist architecture.

This is a serious eco-retreat; solar and wind power are harnessed to provide evening light and constant hot water, and animal dung fuels the stoves. The remote location in the wild heart of the desert is the perfect place to see ancient stone carvings of wild sheep, ibex, and antelope around the volcanic outcrop. The camping offers hiking in the foothills of the Gobi-Altai Mountains, camel trekking through sand dunes, horseback riding in mountain valleys, and digging for dinosaur fossils at the legendary Flaming Cliffs.
